Is it best to color your hair when its dry or oily?

Due to my length of hair, I dont wash my hair every day. I have wondered when it is best for color to take to the hair root. When it has just been washed or when it is a bit oily. Or maybe it doesent matter... Just curious ;)

The day after you wash your hair is the best time to color it. Your hairs natural oils will help protect the hair from additional damage. It can also help give a more even coloring, dry hair can absorb the color unevenly. But too much oil can do the same thing, so you shouldn't wait 3 or 4 days after you've washed it unless you have very dry hair.

The directions in home hair color say don't use on just washed hair. I recommend washing your hair one morning and coloring the next day. A little oil on your scalp helps protect it from the chemicals in dye. I have been coloring mine for about 20 years and it works that way for me.

the best way to colour you're hair, when it's clean and no oils or creams on it, so the hair colour will take effect and for the colour to show properly, trust me about that, i colour my hair all the time.. nad by th way, if you're hair is oily, the hair colour won't take any effect on your hair, it'll be like you did not colour your hair, or the hair colour will last for few weeks only..

I would recommend that you color hair dry due to when you apply color to clean and dry hair it allows the color to absorb better than it would being oily. Having oilly hair would not allow the color to deposite into the cortex correctly. If you applied color to oily hair it would cause uneven porisity due to having more or less oil through out the hair. However, uneven porisity can also be in dry hair but it all depends how bad the texture of hair is damage. It is best to do a porisity test before anyone deposites color into hair. Also, if the hair has uneven porisity one should always apply a filler to balance out the porisity on the hair. (FILLER=TEMPORARY COLOR AS IN SHADES EQ FROM REDKEN). YOU WILL HAVE TO KNOW A LICSENSE COSMETOLOGIST TO GET THIS OR GO TO A SALON TO HAVE IT DONE, OR U CAN GET A PRODUCT CALLED CHI AND THAT IS OVER THE COUNTER. AND IF USING REDKEN SHADES FOR A FILLLER MAKE SURE THE COSMETOLOGIST USES THE PROCESSING SOLUTION W/ IT. I HAVE HEARD AND SEEN THAT MANY DONT USE IT -BUT TRUST ME IT LOOKS ALOT BETTER AND HEALTHIER WHEN USED. ALWAYS FOLLOW MANUFACTURES DIRECTIONS! NOTE: NEVER USE BOX COLOR. ALL BOX COLOR HAS HENNA. GOOD LUCK AND FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY ?'s. and no cant apply color on wet hair that also causes uneven porosity.
